Where
is my SHS class year website ?
(Note - You may find some
class information in our SHSAA
Newsletters also.)
If your class year link is listed but does not work, please take note
of the first part of the web address which does not work.
If the web address begins
with "http://www.stevensalumninh.com/" please contact our web
developer. (See below.)
Other websites that are not working may be down on a temporary basis or
its registration may have expired. If you
know your class contact, pass the information along to this contact.
Class contacts are presently not known by the web developer but
the SHSAA has a list of class contacts. (See
below.)
If your class year link does not appear on the first page,
and you do have a website which is up and running, please
have your class web developer email the SHSAA web developer the address
of your class website and we can add a link to it. (Should your
class choose to include your pages on our site in the future to save
class expenses, we can discuss that as well.) Thanks!!
If you know of no known class website activity, you (and / or a group
of classmates) can start the process of
accumulating information (text) and pictures your classmates may like
to see. (The SHSAA website has plenty of growth capability so no
class fees are necessary to add class information to our site.)
If you have a classmate familiar with web publishing, maybe he or she
would be willing to generate the (html) pages and email them to the web
developer. Otherwise, I suggest creating a .TXT or .DOC file
which could include indications where (named) pictures would be
placed. Preferably the pictures would be .JPG files. The
.TXT, .DOC, and .JPG files can be sent as attachments in an email to
the web developer. (If hard copies only exist and no scanner is
available, they can be sent to the web developer, but remember that
items can get lost in the mail, so it is recommend that you mail copies of the
pictures.) Regarding class submission of web material: It
would be appreciated to have the class designate one person to
contact the SHSAA web developer. Thank you.
(If the above needs further explanation, or you would like to learn how
easy it is to create simple web pages with free software (on either a
Mac or a PC) , do not hesitate to email the web developer.)
How
do I search for classmates ?
When searching for classmates it is suggested that you consider
what the classmates may use to communicate. Recently, we tend to
have more cell phones and may actually have terminated land lines.
MySpace and Facebook accounts are some ways to find
classmates and some may have groups that include schools. There
are some email search sites which I have not used but they sometimes
might work. (When all else fails you could inquire with the
classmate's close friends or relatives.)
The following search process is based on searching for addresses and
(land line) phone numbers on the Internet. Possibly
consider the number of classmates you
are searching for. If searching for a relatively large number of
classmates I recommend using a team of people connected by email to
minimize the total time involved while spreading out the workload.
The workload can be split down by subdividing a list of
names and / or by the search phase.
The first search phase may be to actually search on the Internet for
addresses and phone numbers based on the classmate's name. It
would be advisable to copy & paste all likely results of text into
files on the computer. Sometimes there are many addresses.
There may be clues that would rule out some phone numbers
and or addresses. (You can use a few phone lookup web sights
[like http://www.whitepages.com/] to get results. Try a entering
state to narrow down the hits. Some sites provide enough data
for free while others require a fee be paid.)
A second phase would be to actually call suspect numbers to inquire if
your classmate does live there and confirm mail address and obtain an
email address if the classmate is willing.
The
SHSAA "Missing List"
The "Missing List"
may be viewed in each annual Newsletter.
(In the future we may find a way to have a more up to date
"Missing List" on line.)
This is how the web developer understands the SHSAA data base update
process:
SHSAA's mailing expenses are
increased to help ensure all alumni receive their Newsletters. If
a Newsletter requires forwarding
based on a USPS change of address notification it will be forwarded
and, in addition, the USPS sends to us the change of address so
we can change our data base. On the other hand, if the
Newsletter is undeliverable, we receive that information and the
classmate's name is entered in the "Missing List".
As
reunion time rolls
around class representatives look to us for updated class lists to help
in contacting their classmates. We do not sell our
lists.
The only person who ever sees the list is your
class
representative.
If
everyone would look over the "Missing List"
for relatives, friends or classmates and let us know if you
have
any current addresses or new married names, it would be greatly
appreciated.
