Stevens
High School Alumni Association History

One hundred thirty six years of
continuous interest attest to the pride, loyalty, and love
of Stevens High School by Stevens High School Alumni. From
twelve graduates in 1871 to over 12,900 in 2007, our world-wide membership
boasts of being the oldest active high school alumni association in
the nation. Each Alumni Day graduates travel from every direction to celebrate
with classmates at the annual June weekend celebration. We have people
from all walks of life--- the arts, medicine, law, education, business,
government, military, etc. ---throughout the world.

The early years were celebrated
after the graduation exercises and have grown to the present day
festivities which include a parade of class floats, bands and other
marching units. Following the parade, the annual business meeting and
luncheon is topped off with an evening banquet in the combined
Frederick W. Carr Gymnasium/Doody-Lord Memorial Auditorium at the high
school.
A dance finalizes the reunion activities.
The five year classes realize a healthy turnout, building toward their
twenty-fifth and fiftieth reunions, often organizing the whole weekend
with activities.
Money gifts to the school from the membership have enabled the purchase
of such items as new auditorium drapes, lighting for the stage, sound
equipment for the auditorium/gym, new uniforms for the band, musical
instruments, uniforms for the sports teams, refurbishment of old
paintings in the auditorium, trophy display cases in the high school,
shrubbery for the lawns, books for the library, and in 2003 an
electronic bulletin board.
Beginning in 1964, individual, class, memorial and alumni scholarships
have been awarded at the annual banquet. The association, through
generous donations from its membership and careful stewardship of its
funds, have awarded over $366,000 to 532 worthy seniors going on to two
and four year colleges and vocational schools all over the country.
